Cloth diapers from well-known brands are reliable, and most people choose these brands as their first choice.
Diapers can be categorized by material into cloth diapers and disposable diapers. Cloth diapers offer better absorbency and fit, reducing the likelihood of skin allergies or diaper rash, but they are less convenient to wash and carry. Disposable diapers are convenient to carry and do not require washing, but babies with sensitive skin need frequent changes.
Gender-specific diapers are designed with the direction of urine spray in mind; diapers for boys are thicker at the front, while those for girls are thicker at the back.
The inner layer of the diaper should ideally be free of any additives. Choose diapers that are dry, absorbent, and leak-proof.
If using new cloth to make diapers, be sure to wash, rub, disinfect, and dry them thoroughly before using them on your baby. Cotton is the preferred material, and light colors such as white, light pink, or light yellow are suitable. Avoid dark colors, especially blue, purple, black, and cyan.
The diaper should be of appropriate length and thickness. Keeping the baby's legs wrapped in a diaper for extended periods can cause lower limb deformities and, when wet, easily contaminate the umbilical cord, leading to infection. It's important that the length and thickness are appropriate; too long, too short, too thick, or too thin are all undesirable. Note that diapers for boys and girls differ. For boys, the diaper should be padded thicker in front of the perineum, while for girls, several layers of diapers can be folded under the buttocks to increase absorbency in that area.
