Traditional Papermaking Materials

Wood: The primary material for traditional papermaking is wood. Wood comes from renewable forest resources, making it relatively environmentally friendly. However, wood pulp papermaking is relatively expensive. Wood pulp paper has a fine texture, is suitable for printing and writing, and is the most common type of paper in our daily lives.

Non-Traditional Papermaking Materials

Agricultural Residues: In recent years, people have begun to explore using agricultural residues, such as rice straw and wheat stalks, for papermaking. This material is widely available and inexpensive, but the resulting paper is coarser, and its color and texture are not as uniform as wood pulp paper. Despite these limitations, it is still considered a sustainable and environmentally friendly papermaking method.

Textile Waste: This is an innovative and environmentally friendly option. Waste textiles, especially cotton, can also be used to make paper after processing. This paper has a unique texture and is tough, suitable for making handicrafts, but large-scale production still presents certain challenges.

Other Waste: In addition to agricultural residues and textile waste, other materials such as waste paper and waste packaging materials can also be used as raw materials for papermaking. This method is not only environmentally friendly but also reduces production costs. However, paper made from recycled materials such as waste paper is generally of lower quality and durability than paper made from virgin wood pulp.
